If you are a student who wishes to escape the grounds and go to Hogsmeade, there are multiple secret passageways leading from the school to this little village. If you wish to obey the rules, you can always just go the first Saturday of each season with the rest of the third years and up.

This is a great hang out for dastardly types, though, because no one wants to go here. Some say something secret is going on in here lately, but those stories have been dismissed. A secret entrance under the Whomping Willow will lead students to the Shrieking Shack.

From the Leaky Cauldron to Gringotts, this place is full of wonders and mysteries. All students come here to get what they need for the coming school year and meet up with old friends as well.

Shrunken heads, Dragon eggs, and much more can be found here. Also making its home on Knockturn Alley is Borgin and Burkes.

There are 10 separate levels here, each floor holding its own purpose. You can only get into this place with permission, and students would probably never go here unless called upon for a trial. The first floor you get to is a gleaming hall where all of the Wizards arrive in depart. In the middle is a fountain with a golden pillar that lists all of the names of people in the Second War.

Right in between Platforms 9 and 10, you must walk through the wall and enter the platform that houses the train. You will then get on the train and be on your way.

If you go insane, you are brought to a special wing and are treated for mental illness. Most of the time this works, at other times, people stay mentally insane. If any family of yours is hurt, they are brought here, and you get a day pass away from the school to go visit them.

![[ ]](http://i30.tinypic.com/2dt3ghc.jpg) | Dungeons (2 sub-boards) These are the dark and nasty dungeons that Hogwarts holds. They aren't used to keep any prisoners, but the Potions class and the Slytherin Dormitory are here. Most people try to avoid wandering the dungeons.

In this room, the Entrance Hall, you can find the large marble staircase leading to first floor, the stairway leading to the dungeons, kitchen and Hufflepuff's common room, and the entrance to the Great Hall.

The Entrance Hall and Great Hall are several stories tall, so they extend into this floor from below. On this floor you can find: Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, History of Magic classroom, McGonagall's office, and the Hospital Wing.

Here you will find Moaning Myrtle's bathroom, the gargoyle that protects the entrance of the headmaster's office, and the Defence Against Dark Arts professor's office.

Here you can find the statue that holds the secret passage to Hogsmeade, the forbidden corridor, the trophy room, and down the Charm's corridor you can find the Charm's classroom.

Here you can find the statue of Boris the Bewildered, which is a symbol of the shortcut to Gryffindor Tower. To the left of Boris, the prefect bathroom's lay. A statue of Gregory the Smarmy stands in a corridor in the East Wing.

The Room of Requirements is also up here, a long with Flitwick's office, and the Divination classroom.

![[ ]](http://i30.tinypic.com/2dt3ghc.jpg) | Astronomy Tower (1 sub-board) Off limits to students except for class, the Astronomy Tower is the tallest tower at Hogwarts, and it is surrounded by a parapet, a flat surface with a small defensive wall with regular gaps. This tower lies almost directly above the front doors of the castle, and the fifth-year students stood on the parapet of this tower to take their practical Astronomy OWL exams at midnight.

There are wide ones, there are narrow ones, there are sweeping, smooth ones, there are rickety, unnerving ones. Some of them have vanishing steps that force you to jump. No matter what is in store for you on these stairways that seem to lead to different places each day, it is sure to be an adventure.

| School Grounds |

It is regularly used for practice by the house teams, and has enough terracing and seating to accommodate much of the school when a game is played. When games are played between houses, the teams battle it out for a chance at victory.

![[ ]](http://i30.tinypic.com/2dt3ghc.jpg) | Hagrid's Hut Hagrid's Hut is situated on the edge of both the Forbidden Forest and also the cliff-top on which Hogwarts rests. It is a single-room wooden structure with a big fire and a Hagrid-sized bed in one corner. Although Hagrid is no longer a resident in this hut, it is here waiting for his return.

This is the opposite side of the castle to the Forbidden Forest. The gates themselves have statues of winged boars which sit on top of them. The students usually enter through here on the first day of school and leave on the last.

The forest forms a great barrier on this side of the castle which extends as far as the grounds do. This area is forbidden to students unless for detention or a class. Many creatures call this forest their home, such as Centaurs, Acromantulas, and Unicorns. At night, this forest is as creepy as creepy can get.

The castle itself stands on a cliff overlooking the lake, and rolling lawns lead across the grounds, past Hagrid's hut, and towards the forest. A giant squid, amongst other things, lives in the lake, and it is said that the school toilets flush into it, which may not be a very good idea.

Some also contain the normal plants that grow fruits and vegetables for food at the school. Herbology is taught in the greenhouses, but only in the ones with magical plants.

It was planted when Remus Lupin attended the school, to cover for his lycanthropy. It is a particularly dangerous plant, and will attack anyone who comes near it, especially if they crash their car into it. There is a tunnel underneath it that leads to the Shrieking Shack, if you are lucky enough to make it in there. Unless you have the knowledge of the knot that you must press with a stick to paralyze it,
